Day 2 - VIRTUE

The theme of today's photo is "virtue" which at first seemed like one of the easier topics, until I started thinking about what the word virtue means.

The first thing that comes to mind is a virtuous woman. Obviously this must have been a topic covered in a religious education class or talk that I have attended because after typing in "virtuous woman" to Google, the first hits led me to Proverbs 31:10

"Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies"

I interpret this to mean that a virtuous woman is strong, loving, and entirely invaluable. A virtuous woman has the courage to stand up for what she feels is right and the strength to stay true to her beliefs, even when it may be tough. A virtuous woman is proud of who she is and ready to let her light shine on those around her. A virtuous woman has hope for the future in her life, in her opportunities, and in her faith. I have been blessed to be surrounded by many virtuous women. These women have helped shape my life, my work ethic, and my faith through the virtues that they exemplify.

During this lenten season it is important to remember that this is not just a time for sacrifice. Lent is a time for growth and renewal meaning that maybe instead of focusing so much on the sacrifices, we should focus on creating virtues. We can focus on being patient, kind, faithful, hopeful, courageous...the list goes on and on.

For today I chose a photo of a bridge. Lent, much like a bridge, can lead to something that is completely unexpected. Ultimately, Lent leads to the resurrection of Jesus Christ, something that we can try our hardest to prepare for, but we really don't know what to expect. Lent acts like a path that helps us focus on the virtues we already have and leads us to the path that God has planned for us. He is there to help us grow into virtuous women, and men of course, all we need to do is cross the bridge to the adventure that's ahead.
