Today the theme was 40, which was easy to think of why it was relevant, but was not as easy to come up with what to photograph. Lucky for me the 40 runs right by my school and gave me something fairly straightforward.
The number 40 is significant because of the 40 days and 40 nights that Jesus was fasting in the desert, while the devil tempted Him. This was a difficult time full of pain, struggle, and temptation. Because we have all given something up for Lent, we can empathize with what Jesus had to go through. It may not be to the extent that Jesus suffered, but it is a reminder that if he could last in the desert for 40 days and 40 nights, we can stay strong for the 40 (or so) days of Lent. When you are feeling tempted to break your promise think of Jesus. Think of the way he said no to the devil's temptation, even though it might have been appealing. The devil is out there to pull us away from God, but we must stay strong in our decisions and refuse the devil so that we may continue along our path to heaven.
The photo I took today is of the Interstate 40 sign. This might just be a sign, but it is a piece of information that leads us in the direction we are headed. Looking for your direction is much like finding your way to God. Many times if you are not paying attention you will miss your turn or not notice the sign at all. This is just a testament to how much we need to be looking for those signs from God. They could be in plain sight, but if we are distracted we will not be able to see them. Never forget that God has a plan and does not intend to confuse you. If you pay attention to the world around you, you will notice that the answers are all around you. Go and look for these signs and keep on making your way one step closer to God.
