The theme for the photo today is "water". Water is such an important part of our lives, but do we appreciate it enough?
I assume most, if not all, of the people reading this blog have access to clean water. Have you ever thought of how privelaged you are to have that water? Yeah we turn a knob and clean water comes out, but millions of people don't have this kind of access at their finger tips! I know growing up in San Diego, I was constantly hearing that we needed to conserve water. It is something that is in high demand, but with a very limited supply. People drink, cook, garden, clean, and much more with water. More importantly, water keeps us alive. Being dehydrated is a horrible feeling. Your body starts shutting down because it is desperate for water.
Might water be similar to God? Water is definitely something that can be taken for granted. Unless we use it wisely and conserve what we have, then it will be gone. God, while not a limited source, should not be taken for granted. The only way to keep the "flow" of God in our lives is to nurture the relationship we have with Him. If we ignore Him then our connection with Him is easily lost. Just like when someone is suffering because they do not have water to survive, our spirits can suffer from a lack of connection with God. That is one thing that we can be thankful for, God will never disappear. Even when you stray from the church or the faith, God will always welcome you back with open arms. While one of the most difficult things is going back to something that you faded from, it is one of the most beneficial journeys you will take. God only wants what is best for you and when we let the spirit flow it helps us and those around us in a very special way.
The next time you walk into to church pay close attention to what you do when you walk in. Do you bless yourself with the holy WATER before you sit down? Notice what the priest does during mass. Does he use holy water in any other ways?
Let us take this time during Lent to really appreciate what we have and pray for those who may not have clean water. Let us thank God for giving us the tools to survive and help those that may be less fortunate than us.
