The theme for today's photo is "sacrifice". I'm assuming we all know what a sacrifice is considering most of you reading have given something up, or sacrificed something, for the duration of Lent. Sacrifice is something that can be very difficult, but equally as rewarding.
Sacrificing something to make room for something else is difficult. Over the years I have been involved in many different activites, one of the most demanding being dance. Those of you involved in some kind of activity whether you are participating personally or you are prioritizing your children's activities above your own personal desires then you know what I am talking about. These activities are very time consuming. They require you to attend practices, events, games, competitions, etc...but why do we make these sacrifices? After giving it some thought I decided that we give up that time that could be spent relaxing or spending time with friends because in the end it provides us satisfaction. Yes, there are times I sit here and ask myself why I have dedicated so much of my time to these extra things, but the sacrifice is always worth it. Sometimes I wish I could just skip practice and go spend time with friends or go on a little weekend get away but commitments can't be broken. These sacrifices are difficult, but lead to something greater.
During Lent we all sacrifice something that we generally wouldn't go very long without. This sacrifice helps us remember what sacrifices Jesus made for us and the struggle that He endured. We also make these sacrifices to get rid of distractions, or things that may be keeping us from connecting deeper with God. While we all work on staying true to our sacrifice, we should remind ourselves that if Jesus could die on the cross for us, we can go a few more days without ____________. It is the easiest way to motivate yourself to keep going, especially as we get closer the day. This sacrifice, while difficult, will ultimately lead to something so great and rewarding in the end so stay focused and stay strong.
