The theme for the photo today is "light". Light is something we need in order to function. Without light we cannot see, therefore we llose ability to complete simple everyday tasks. We also need light to live. Without sunlight, much of what we need to sruvive would not grow. So why is light important to Lent?

I like to think of the presence of God in our lives as a light. This is one of the most important lights in our life because it is always there. Instantly I begin to sing, "Christ be our light, shine in our hearts, shine through the darkness. Christ be our light, shine in your church gathered today." This song narrates the situation perfectly. Christ is our light. He leads us in the direction that God has intended for us. He is a light that can always be seen because it is a light within our hearts. All we have to do to find this light is look in our hearts and it will always be there for us. Sometimes this light may shine brighter than other, but this is why we must remember that His light is shining in all of those around us. If we cannot find the light within ourselves we must look to others for help and inspiration to find our way back.

At this time, it is a very dark time for the church. Jesus has been crucified on the cross and is thought to be dead. Luckily, we know that He is not. Even after His crucifiction we can encounter Christ's light because it is in all of us. It may be harder to find, but it is there. In order to brighten the light we must come together and let God's light shine as one. With the end of Lent approaching, and the resurrection of Jesus Christ just around the corner, we must be preapred for Christ's light to shine bright and make the effort to keep his light shining as best we can.
