Day 43 - SOLEMN

The theme for the photo today is "solemn". We, as Catholics, are going through a very solemn time as we have just encountered a great loss. Jesus has been crucified and we are awaiting his resurrection, a day of true celebration. After some research I have discovered a different connection of "solemn" with the Catholic church.

A solemnity is actually a feast day in the Catholic church. This means that any celebration of the Holy Trinity, important saint, Mary, or event within Jesus' life is considered a solemnity. This feast is celebrated the night before the actual event. In the case of Lent and Easter, the Easter Vigil mass, the Saturday before Easter, would be considered a solemnity. While I knew that the Saturday before Easter brought the Easter Vigil mass, I had no clue it had a name. This mass tends to be longer, with more scripture readings and songs. It is very formal, dignified, serious, and full of sincerity, which is also the definition of solemn.

This Saturay if you attend the Easter Vigil Mass, be proud that you know that it is called a solemnity.
